Hello,
I just got an X25-M G2 160gb drive and was wondering if the latest firmware (2CV102HD) has garbage collection. I plan to use the drive in a mac, so TRIM in and of itself isn't going to be enough for me. Anyone know the answer?
Would a zeroing erase using disk utility return performance to the drive if done periodically? Thanks

Also, is it possible to downgrade the firmware edition on a X25-M G2 drive?

All Intel G2 SSD's have garbage collection. There is a newer firmware, version 02M3, but the release notes do not mention garbage collection.
Usually the main generic disk drive erasing program that is used with SSDs is HDDerase, which will put the SSD into a fresh state. The Intel SSD Toolbox has such a function in it, but I don't know if that will work on any Mac's.

Intel SSDs do not have idle time garbage collection. However, they do something like real-time garbage collection during sequential writes and already are resilient against random writes.
