Hello,
I have an Intel 750 1.2Tbyte drive 2.5 inch model. I want to use it as a second hard drive on a Dell computer. i don't need to boot from it.
It is not currently recognized in the BIOS. I have tried it with the supplied cable as my mother board has the appropriate plug/socket. I have also tried plugging it into the U.2 connectors that come with my desktop case at the back of the slots/trays where you can add hard drives. Neither work.
Do I need to supply additional power via the SATA power connector that breaks out of the supplied cable? If so, what connector do I need? My computer has plenty of 6 pin PCIe power connectors but I have not been able to find a cable that would simply link from these to the supplied connector.
I have to say that it is very disappointing that there appear to be no instructions with the hard drive and the information I have found on line is not very clear.
Hope someone can help.
B
Nick

Hello NickH,
Please review the following information regarding usage and installation or your new drive.
- The 2.5in model of the Intel® SSD 750 Series requires SATA power to be connected to it, otherwise, it will not be operational. Please check the following links for more information:
http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/ssd-750/sb/CS-035496.htm Intel® SSD 750 Series — Before You Buy
http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-035482.htm Intel® High Performance Solid-State Drive — Physical Installation Instructions for PCIe* NVMe* Solid-State Drives
- Take into consideration that this drive is an PCIe* NVMe* device, so is it not detected as a regular SSD in the BIOS. You need to install the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23929/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Family-for-NVMe-... Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers for the drive to be recognized by the Operating System.
- You might want to contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support to check if there is any additional configuration or BIOS update required for the motherboard to recognize NVMe drives.

Thank you Jonathan,
These links are helpful but I still cannot find what cable I need to supply power. The document simply says supply SATA power. All the cables that appear on the internet when I type in SATA power come up with cables that could not fit this power plug on the connector (they seem to be indentical rather than the opposite gender) and most seem to have old molex connectors on the other end which are very old compared to the new PCIe type 6 pin blocks on most new computers.
Can you at least tell me what connector is required to fit the supplied cable. I guess I can sort out the other side myself. Why is this information not readily available?
Thank you,
Nick

The U.2 cable that comes with the Intel® SSD 750 Series 2.5 inch 15 mm height drive has a breakout portion for SATA power, as shown in the document: http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/ssd-750/sb/CS-035496.htm Intel® SSD 750 Series — Before You Buy.
You should use that breakout portion to provide power to the drive. It uses a regular SATA power connector like the ones you would find in current PC's.
