X25M 160G2 slower than it should

Hi!

I just got myself X25M 160G2. Wonderfull disk may I say, but then I decided to run DiskMark.

Sadly my seq write is 208mb/s (shouldnt it be around 250?)

also 512kt/s write is only 140mb/s (seen pics with similar drive run 200+mb/s

So somewhere is a slight problem.

My mobo is MSI GD65 (P55 motherboard) and prosessor is i7-860. Also running 4gigs of G.Skill 7-8-7-24 1600 DDR3.

Anyway, I updated my motherboard BIOS and SSD firmwire. I set Raid more to ACHI from BIOS and made a fresh install of Win7. Then installed SSD toolbox and ran TRIM. Still same slightly slower speeds.

What can I do?

Does it matter which slot of SATA the SSD is connected? Now its in slot 7.

Thanks alot for the help.

Intel controllers provide the best platfom for ssd performance. Looking at the review linked below you are using a JMicron JMB363 chipset

MSI has seven SATA ports - six of which are at right angles to the board, with another nestled in to sit just above the graphics card in the bottom x16 slot. Unfortunately a traditionally poor performing JMicron JMB363 chipset is used for this, the eSATA and IDE port

Hi.

I changed the Sata slot and got some boost to the statics.

Now Seq Read is 220mb/s

and 512K read 148mb/s

But Im still a bit behind the supposed perfomance.

Any more tips? And thanks for the help.

EDIT:

Oh... If I understood you right, you say that my Sata controller is JMicron.

This is from MSI site:

SATAII controller integrated in Intel P55/JMicron® 363 chipset

- Up to 3Gb/s transfer speed.- Supports six SATAII ports by P55- Supports one SATAII port by JMicron 363.- Supports one eSATA / USB combo port by JMicron 363.- Supports AHCI controller with AHCI / SATA RAID 0/1/5/10 by P55.

So from here i Understand that only one slot is JMicron and 6 of them are Intel?

Hi. Yep, you need to move your drive over to the Intel controlled sata ports. Once you are on an Intel sata port you should get something like the figures below if you have a 160 GB drive. If you have an 80 GB drive it should be around the same but the sequential write speed will be around 80 MB/s.

I am using the latest Intel RST drivers, which is why the controller states iaStor. If I was using the native MS AHCI drivers (installed by default with W7) it would state msahci.

The benchmark I use is called AS SSD Benchmark, which can be downloaded here:
