Why are Windows 7 Users Running Toolbox Optimizer?

Why are Windows 7 users running the toolbox optimizer when the readme file explicitly states that for win7 this is not needed. The only case for running the optimizer toobox for WIN 7 is if you are using the Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.x driver or any driver that does not support the (TRIM) command:

The readme says page 13:

"If your PC uses Microsoft Window 7 and the standard Microsoft AHCI driver(the DEFAULT setup for nomral configurations without RAID), the Intel SSD Optimizer will work; however, you do not need to use the Intel SSD optimizer because Microsoft Windows 7 implments the ATA Data Set Management Command (TRIM) natively."

The operative word here is "running," not "supported."

I believe if you open an elevated command prompt and enter the fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify then press enter it will tell you if trim is enabled. If the command returns the command =0 trim is enabled. If it returns -1 trim is not enabled.

This is what you should see that will tell you if trim is enabled

There's software to tell if the drive is capable of TRIM and ways to tell if the OS supports TRIM but there is nothing that will show if/when TRIM is running. It is not software dependant. Some drives will initiate TRIM on their own.

Hi All,

I have an Asus P6T mobo with an intel ICH10R. I am currently running a X-25 M G2 (80 GB) for my OS and two WD HDs in RAID for storage. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have the intel matrix storage console and therefore decided to try the toolbox. Prior to running the toolbox everything worked great, I just thought I'd try it out for good measure. Since running it, my system stutters (Mouse will freeze for a split second when moving it, bit sound heard when playing audio every 30 seconds or so). I tried upgrading to intel RST raid controller (version 9.5.4.1001). This didn't help. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

******* After a few windows install I found that this was due to NVIDIA drivers which i installed earlier: 195.62 causes my drive to stutter.

My question is if I am using Windows 7 and if I am using the msahci driver and if windows is giving the trim command to the SSD, does it harm the SSD to run the toolbox optimizer also.
