trim on raid 0 with x79?

Various tech sites such as Anandtech have an article up about the fact that with the newest RST software that Raid 0 and trim is supported.

Is this available for X79? The X79 of course uses RSTe which has a different version number to the normal RST and the articles do not mention anything about X79 at all

I don't know if this is faking the chipset ID as previous driver hacks were doing. The code for the latest hack was taken from release BIOS images from Gigabyte and Asrock, and implemented into an Asus BIOS. That's not to say that Gigabyte or Asrock didn't do some hacking of their own, but it does suggest that it might legitimately be code from Intel specifically for x79 that just hasn't been released by all of the motherboard manufacturers for their own reasons.

You are right, given what I've been reading lately, including what you referred to.

The ASR and Gigabyte releases you mention are interesting if you compare that with Intel's own X79 boards. They all use the same UEFI version, and are all using RSTe drivers and OROMs. So, not what the others are doing, at least so far.

Thanks Par.

I hope you have a great holiday.

One question, I sell you a new car, it has calipers, but only temp brake pads, waiting on newer designed pads, because the old one's have double the stopping distance, the engine will run ethanol gas, but not until the update for the injector and computer have been done. Would you throw your children in it and drive across the country, or return it until it is running at optimum ?.

Happy Holidays to you as well Odie!

The answer to your question is: 17 miles... no wait, 45 minutes... shoot, that's not right... I know, I would not buy the car from you!

If I read your analogy correctly, no I would not use it until it is safe. Or, I would prefer to have an officially supported driver and Option ROM that provided TRIM support in RAID 0. I say that simply because I don't know if there are any side affects of using the modified BIOS, Option ROM, etc. I do not know that there are side affects, but I'm uncertain that none will happen as well.

I understand your concern, and don't blame you. As a programmer, I know that what seems to be simple and straightforward can result in things being affected that ought to be unrelated. But I certainly don't know enough about what uses that data to make a decision.
