Intel 510s 250gb RAID 0 - Very low performance

Hello, 1st post here. I just bought a couple of these drives and picked them over Vertex 3 due to reliability. However I'm running a RAID 0 and getting rather low performance in every benchmark I've tested:

Crystalmark for example:

Seq read: 545, write: 453

512k read: 322, write: 416

4k read: 15, write: 30

4kQD32 read: 159, write: 100

Get very similar results in AS SSD

System:

This is a brand new M18x Laptop

i7 2920xm

8 GB Ram 1866

Windows 7 64

I did a fresh install, disabled the defrag and indexing

My stripe is 465GB and the Raid is configured with 128KB Blocks.

I did install the Intel Rapid Storage Driver

Any ideas?

Thank you.

To be honest with you I'm not sure what resolved it.

I followed your LPM fix

I reinstalled the sata driver

swapped ports but the issue was still there

Then I updated windows to the latest fixes (around 27, since it was a new install)

I did ran Throttlestop but didnt do much with it.

And I noticed the issue was fixed.

That does not sound like a general solution.

1. I do not think Windows Update has helped.

2. You work with "IRST 10.6.0.1022 (IRST10.6.0.1002)" or? And before that?

3. Explanation would make sense for me, the port swap. You write but the problem persisted.

4. "ThrottleStop" can positively affect the speed. (SpeedStep and C-states)

"TS" has no effect on 3Gb / s to 6Gb / s.

5. What is your "Hotplug" setting in the BIOS?

Have you made a change there? (maybe off?)

6.LPM off is ok. So you can exclude this as a source of error.

Later, it could be tentatively re-enable. As you like. For me it is always disabled.

According to your statement I see your problem is not really fixed.

After a reboot it would again be present. possibly !

I did not touch the BIOS aside from configuring my memory's timings... I doubt that did it.

1) I agree

2) No, working with an older version looks like, 10.1.2.1004 should I upgrade?

3) Probably, not sure but perhaps the parameters were re[written

4) Didn't do much, just used it to check speeds on my i7

5) What's the hotpug?

6) Any reasons why I would want to turn it on? no right?

I also downloaded Intel SSD Toolbox.

The issue is completely resolved, done over 30 reboots been doing some OC to test the system so there was a lot of rebooting being done.

to 2. I would update. It must, however, you decide.

If so, then check the "LPM Reg entries"! And check 6Gb / s connectivity!

to 4. Can you "Enhanced Intel SpeedStep" (EIST) off?

Possibly in the BIOS! See also "EIST" box in "ThrottleStop"!If it is gray, then EIST is disabled on your board. Then you can not disable SpeedStep. The C-states should get off, however. Here lies an enormous brake performance for 4K.

to 5. "Hotplug" the name says it. This feature allows hotplug the drive. It is possible that "LPM off" has disabled the function. This would explain why your problem is solved.

You want your hardly a "system SSD's" remove the fly, right? For the "system ports" should be deactivated hotplug. You'd have to find this setting in your BIOS.

to6. No "LPM" can be turned off (value=0). Who can afford to 2x510, which also has enough money for about +280 mW. (100mW to 380mW of difference)

to other things: "Intel SSD Toolbox" is super!

After so many reboot it should be stable.

Consider: if everything ok with you, then forget the details of this paper! You can leave your system the way it is. This is your decision.

EDIT: May I ask what country do you live?

Thanks Ricki,

I'm going to ghost my drive and then try updating Intel Rapid Storage and playing with LPM (on and Off)

Sorry I miss read hotpug not hotplug and this is a laptop (M18x) so my BIOS is not as feature rich as the desktop high end motherboards (P67 for example), i do have an extreme processor edition, so it is unlocked.

I'm going to read the Intel SSD Toolbox manual, not sure what it can do for me, I supposed some of the things I did manually? (Turn off defrag, search, indexing, fetch, superfetch, system restore, etc)

Again, because this is a laptop not worried about power consumption, more so with the Intel drives as they are very efficient as you say (.001w iddle, that's nothing lol)

I live in the US
