Do Intel's new RST AHCI/RAID drivers support TRIM?

Win7 users with an Intel chipset mainboard and Intel X25-M 2G SSD's, who successfully have flashed the actually withdrawn Postville SSD Firmware, want to take advantage of the TRIM command support, but there still are some restrictions:

1. Intel's Matrix Storage Manager drivers (last official v8.9.0.1023) do not support the TRIM command. The only available SATA drivers, which do fully support the TRIM command, are the Win7 generic MS IDE/AHCI drivers.

2. SSD's running in "RAID Mode" neither do support the TRIM command nor can be "cleaned" by Intel's new SSD Toolbox.

So here is my question:

Do or will the upcoming Intel AHCI/RAID drivers of the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (RST) support the TRIM command?

I ask this, because I am already running the brandnew and WHQL certified RST driver v9.5.0.1037 (available at Station-drivers since 13th October) with my 2x160 GB Intel Postville SSD RAID0 system and got a really amazing performance boost.

Thanks in advance!

Fernando

My system:

MB: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (P45 with Intel ICH10R Southbridge)

CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8400 (no OC)

HDD's: 2x160 GB Intel X25-M G2 as RAID0

RAM: 4x2 GB J.Skill PC2-8500

I am not running my SSD as a RAID. I have it set to RAID in the BIOS to support my other 2 harddrives. Does this make a difference?

Obviously all your HDD's inclusive the SSD are managed by the Intel MSM driver, but the SATA Controller where your SSD is connected probably has other HardwareID's than your RAID and might be compatible with the MS Standard IDE or AHCI Controllers.

Check the HardwareID's of the Controllers, which are listed within the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" or "Storage Controllers" sections of the Device Manager. You will get the HardwareID's by right clicking onto the device > "Properties" > "Details" > "Property" > "HardwareID's".

Unfortunately, since I installed the MSM, all those have disappeared from the Device Manager. They were all there before though and my assumption was the SSD was running on one.

And... if i uninstall the MSM, will windows 7 roll back to the original drivers?

Since you have installed the complete IMSM package, you should have access to the MSM Control Panel. There you should see the details regarding your SSD.

Anyway there is nothing to worry about. As soon as the new SSD Toolbox is available, you should install it and run the Optimizer from time to time.

I expect, that even SSD's, which are within a RAID array (as the ones I own) will get Trim support in the new future by Intel's upcoming RST drivers. To get more informations about how long we will have to wait I have started this thread.

Probably it will, but you should not try it, if the active partition with the MBR is within the RAID.
