winsat r/w results for SSD worse than SATA hard drive?

Running winsat in win7 on my PC's SATA drive shows approx 104 Mb/s seq read and 113 Mb/s seq write.

After running winsat on the new Intel 530 Series 120GB SSD the results drop to 34 Mb/s seq read, and 29 Mb/s seq write.

How is it possible that the SSD is so much slower than the old SATA drive? Does this indicate a bad SSD?

The winsat results were obtained by connecting the SSD to my PC going through a USB 2.0 port..

After installing the SSD in a laptop, winsat reports 261 Mb/s seq read and 161 Mb/s seq write.
