I have an Intel SSD 540S 1.0TB M.2 drive which recently developed some I/O problems.
Can't read from Drive I/O Error. Backup cannot complete, same message.
Running in a NUC6i7KYK, Drive Serial NO: CVLY6194013E1P0G
After running the Intel Solid-State Tool Box utilities all seemed well again.
But the Firmware Update bar shows the Red Circle indicating that the firmware is a previous version
Searching i found the current version is listed as 042C but the Tool box shows firmware version LSBG100. ????
I used irmfuu_7.0.0.E file to run the upgrade which said the upgrade worked - now reboot.
Done
But the version number stayed the same.
Attached is the captured output for the update.
the Solid-State Tool Box utilities shows the original firmware version LSBG100
Can you set me right on this please?

After posting this i was reviewing what was done and found the most obvious mistake i made.
The Instructions after the update in the command window said restart the computer.
but a Shut down and restart is what is required.
Then the Tools menu shows the Firmware update red indicator is gone
clicking the update in the firmware screen ran the update and all was completed and good.
Sorry for missing that and causing a not required post.
Thanks
