Hi,
We have motherboard manufactured for us by our OEM, below is our configuration-
1. CPU E5-2680v3
2. 2x Intel S4500 480GB SSD
3. Areca RAID 1203-4i (firmware v1.57)
Have confirmed with Intel that S4500 does support SED.
Also, confirmed that areca firmware supports SED http://www.areca.com.tw/products/1203_4i8i.htm http://www.areca.com.tw/products/1203_4i8i.htm
Wanted to know how to enable SED on SSDs? Do we need Intel BIOS to communicate with SSDs via RAID?
Thanks,
Himanshu

Hi Himanshu,
Thank you for posting in the Intel® communities.I understand that you want to know how to enable SED on the SSD. Please let me investigate on this so that I can provide you an accurate response.I'll post an update as soon as possible.Regards,Diego V.07-10-2018 05:58 AM
Hi Himanshu,
After investigating about your concern, I was informed that the Intel® SSD DC S4500 Series is AES-256 hardware encrypted, therefore there is really nothing to enable as the encryption works at hardware level by default. However, if you want to enable SED, you may consider checking the RAID controller user manual in order to understand if there's some kind of procedure to enable the feature from the RAID controller side. You can also contact the RAID controller's manufacturer for any other considerations from that side.If there is anything else I can help you with, let me know.Regards,Diego V.
