Intel 5400s SSD Secure Erase

According to the Intel 5400s specification pdf, the Secure Erase command on the 5400s initiates a "Full NAND erase of user available space and spare area"

1. Does that involve a rewrite for each individual cell or releasing all block information simultaneously?

2. Does it support the full ATA Security user and master passwords?

3. Does it support MAXIMUM security mode in which the input of the master password initiates a Secure Erase?

Hello chrisharris,

We understand you would like some information regarding Secure Erase and the Intel SSD Pro 5400s Series.1. A secure erase, also known as low-level format queries each cell to see if it has been written to, and then writes a zero to the cell. After this, it will release all block information.2. Both Master and User passwords are supported, they do not need to be the same.3. This model supports https://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2016/04/18/intel-amt-remote-secure-erase Remote Secure Erase using http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/intel-active-management-technolog... Intel® AMT, so I'd like to say yes. However, we will check with our additional resources and confirm this information for you.Best regards,Carlos A.

Hi Chrisharris,

About the secure erase, the process may take around 1 or 2 hours, it is not accurate but is an estimated time for running that process.Let us know if you require any further assistance.Regards,NC
