Intel 520 SSD with older motherboards.

Just upgraded my XP PC with an Intel 520 SSD and windows 7. The machine is now unstable randomly freezing, the fresh instal went fine and the drivers installed OK. Could this be a hardwear compatibility problem or is it drivers and software? The bios is still set to IDE not AHCI, should this have been changed before installing win 7? Motherboard is MSI P6NGM with Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 4 GB RAM

So far no system freezes since changing to AHCI. Intel toolbox diagnostics are all OK and the drive optimization and trim run no problem. Also upgraded to the most recent BIOS V3.7 over the weekend. Hopefully sorted, will report back in a week.
