Intel ssd 750 series not booting on http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS-VIII-GENE/specifications/ asus maximus VIII z170 chipset.
I have an Intel SSD 750 series add-in-card and I want to use as my main/boot drive.
The issue is that when I hit the power button, the mobo do not boot from the SSD, it just show the Q-CODE 41. However if I go directly to the UEFI boot menu and manually select the drive to boot from it works, windows 10 loads normally and I can use.
I searched around the mobo should support the SDD.
I have tried the following:
- Disable and enable CMS compatiblity.- Disable and enbale secure boot.- Install the intel NVMe drivers.- Adjust the boot priority.- Disable and enable fast boot.- tried the instructions here >
Is there a Bios setting I am missing for my board? Is it the OS? Can someone please help?

Hello Ackara,
Please contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support and confirm with them what may be the cause for the Q-CODE 41. A quick online check shows multiple results and possible reasons for this behavior (CPU, RAM, etc.).
The motherboard manufacturer may also let you know if there is any additional setting required for this configuration. For example, some motherboards may allow manual configuration of the PCIe slot to Gen3 x4.
Here are some recommendations you may check as well:
- Update the BIOS of your motherboard to the most recent version recommended by the manufacturer.
- Make sure that the SSD is properly connected to a PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot. Your motherboard appears to have a slot (Black) specific for this purpose:

- Review the document http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-035481.htm Booting an NVMe* PCI Express* Solid State Drive. It may have an example similar to your system that you can use as reference.
- Try booting with a single memory DIMM (in different slots) to discard RAM issues.
