Firmware Updates and My SSD??

My netbook which has an intel SSD 128gb (I think 520 or so series, can't check atm) tells me in my toolbox I have a firmware update, will this erase my HDD requiring a reformat of the disk?

The firmware update process is not supposed to delete your files; however, it is strongly advised to backup your data before proceeding with the update. If the Intel® SSD came with your system we recommend getting the firmware updates directly from the equipment manufacturer.
