To prolong drive life, you might want to consider turning off things like System Restore and the Search Index that can cause more drive activity than usual. Windows 7 is supposed to handle most other things on its own, and should automatically disable defragmentation, for example.
I'd generally maintain the drive as an OS/application drive, and if you're ever extensively downloading, storing media, etc., put those things on another drive.
Intel is supposed to have firmware with TRIM support out within the next couple months, and I'd upgrade to it once available.
