Windows reistallation question

I have a 80 gig version of the X-25 G2 drive. I did a clean install of Windows 7 upgrade. Now after a month of use, the software did not activate and informs me I must use it as an upgrade of a previous Windows version.

How do I go about installing my copy of Vista so I can upgrade it to Win 7 without messing up my new ssd drive?

Can I format this drive like a regular hard drive? I don't want to do something that makes it unuseable.

Ah, I get you, yes you can.

But i would advise against upgrading vista,if you do an ickle bit of reasearch and googling, you will find a way of installing the upgrade of win 7 and it being activated. THat would be the best way, never trust OS upgrades
