Just did the firmware update and it hosed my Windows 7 installation. The updater showed a successful firware update. Initially the computer booted just fine, but once I was within Windows it installed some drivers and asked for a reboot. That's when the trouble started. Now the drive won't boot Windows 7 anymore. I don't know if it's a Dell problem or Intel problem. The Dell BIOS claims a SMART error. I have a Dell XPS 8000.

Nogi, my system with an unaligned partition (thanks to Acronis 2009) is working fine with the trim firmware and Win7 x64. I was going to fix it with gparted after updating but delayed that after my second systems G2 corrupted itself. It had a fresh Win7 x64 AHCI install and an aligned partition.

That offset is correct, ambizytl. Both Vista and Win7 partition the system partition with an offset of 2048 sectors:
(2048 sectors) * (512 bytes/sector) = 1,048,576 bytes. XP and prior offset the system partition by 63 sectors. Win7 partitions this way. This trim firmware is for use with Win7, so it is doubtful that there are many affected drives with the old, 63-sector partitioning. I agree that the issue appears to be some firmware/driver incompatibility.

Yes, Acronis seems to have their act together with TI Home 2010. I backed up my drive image using ATI 2010 prior to installing the firmare and then recovered the updated 2-partition X25-M 160GB using the previously-created Acronis image. Acronis restored my system partition correctly, with a 2048 sector-offset.

Wrong! Acronis 2010 DOES restore partitions with correct alignment.

I suggest that you back up your partition(s) individually using ATI 2010. Then partition the drive using Win 7, which will establish your system partition with at 2048 sector offset. Then restore the partiton(s) one at a time.
