I have an Intel SSD 320 Series 160 GB SSD. I'm using the latest firmware and have version 3.02 of the toolbox.
Whenever I go to use the Intel SSD optimizer I receive an error. The error is "Error: The Intel SSD Optimizer encountered an error (40). Reboot and try again.".
I have of course restarted and tried again with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated as I've never been able to optimize the drive since I've had it.

It would help if you listed what PC you are using, what type (laptop, desktop), what components it has, SATA mode, SATA driver, and what OS you use. Diagnosing things like this is not easy without that information.
Talking to Intel support is not a bad idea too, and the first thing they would ask you is the same thing I did.
