intel ICH9M-E/M Sata AHCI controller driver version

Hi there, I have just purchased and installed a 520 series 120 gb drive and my AHCI controller is version 8.9.0.1023

and I seem to be experiencing some lag, would I be advised to update driver ? and to what version ?

My system is an HP dv7 laptop with core duo P7350 @ 2,0 ghz processor, I assume from the driver name that I am running in ahci not ide but not sure, Bios seems to be locked down. Could really use an idea here, just not sure, my last drive was a seagate hybrid(momentus xt) and it does seem to be faster.
