Do Intel's new RST AHCI/RAID drivers support TRIM?

Win7 users with an Intel chipset mainboard and Intel X25-M 2G SSD's, who successfully have flashed the actually withdrawn Postville SSD Firmware, want to take advantage of the TRIM command support, but there still are some restrictions:

1. Intel's Matrix Storage Manager drivers (last official v8.9.0.1023) do not support the TRIM command. The only available SATA drivers, which do fully support the TRIM command, are the Win7 generic MS IDE/AHCI drivers.

2. SSD's running in "RAID Mode" neither do support the TRIM command nor can be "cleaned" by Intel's new SSD Toolbox.

So here is my question:

Do or will the upcoming Intel AHCI/RAID drivers of the Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology (RST) support the TRIM command?

I ask this, because I am already running the brandnew and WHQL certified RST driver v9.5.0.1037 (available at Station-drivers since 13th October) with my 2x160 GB Intel Postville SSD RAID0 system and got a really amazing performance boost.

Thanks in advance!

Fernando

MB: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R (P45 with Intel ICH10R Southbridge)

CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8400 (no OC)

HDD's: 2x160 GB Intel X25-M G2 as RAID0

RAM: 4x2 GB J.Skill PC2-8500

AS I have a similiar setup, running 1 X25-M G2 with 2 HDDs in Raid 0 in Raid Mode I installed the newest RST driver from the site that has been mentioned here. Now I do not know where to get the SSD Toolbox form as Intel pulled it from the site. What is the most recent version ?

1. The fist and only SSD Toolbox, which had been published by Intel at 26th October 2009 and pulled at 4th November, was v1.1.0.000.

2. Intel has promised, that they will make an updated and hopefully error free version of the Intel Toolbox available for users until the end of this year (2009),

So you should just wait some few days. You will find the download link at Intel's Download Center.

EDIT: I have changed the last part of my message, because I misunderstood your question. I thought, that your SSD was within a RAID configuration, but it isn't.

No he has only one SSD drive, so he can use the toolbox, when it is available again (by the end of the mount as Intel promised ) ... just wait a few more days like me or search for the old toolbox on the net ...

@ Arcticus:

You are right, thanks for your clarification.

Obviously I didn't read Mactabilis' post carefully enough to realize, that his SSD is outside the RAID.

To make this clear, I have just edited my previous post.

Hi everyone,

I'd just like to double check something before I go ahead and buy an Intel SSD.

I have a Dell XPS 420 system, that supports RAID and has Intel Raid Drivers on. I have Intel Matrix Storage Console running on it and my OS is Windows 7 64-bit running on a RAID 1 configuration.

I'd like to move my OS to an Intel SSD, but continue to have the RAID 1 on my two "normal" HDD for data. I'd like to know if I can use the new tool box to run TRIM commands on the single SSD drive that will not be RAID configuration? I am also a little unsure how to set this up in the boot screens when I start the PC (the Intel Matrix Manager parts), so any advice on this would also be appreciated.

Any help gratefully appreciated. Thanks,

James

Yes, if you're running the SSD as a single drive, you should have no problems running the toolbox optimizer.
