Hi Guys,

I'm about to purchase an Intel x25m 80gb SSD and install Win 7 x64, just wondered if there is anything SSD related that I need to do in advance or after the install to improve performance/stability, or am I simply good to go?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks doakh,

So plug in the SSD to SATA 0 or 1

Make sure it is IDE in the BIOS

Boot the TRIM install

Change to ACHI in the BIOS

Install windows

Is that right?

Where do I find the TRIM bootable install?

Thanks!

Depending on your motherboard, the first SATA port will be 0 or 1--choose the one that is first.

I updated the newest firmware in AHCI mode--I did not change it to IDE. You could do it in AHCI mode and if that doesn't work, you can change BIOS to IDE--or you can start doing it in IDE. As I said, I did it in AHCI with no problems.

Before you install Windows 7, make certain your BIOS is in AHCI mode and it will install the default msahci driver for AHCI.

I installed the TRIM firmware after installing Windows 7 and all is well. I can't comment on doing it the other way. Well, just remembered I did install the original TRIM firmware in my other two SSDs that did not have Windows 7 installed, empty drives, so you can do it either way.

"Install your SSD in the first port, either SATA port 0 or port 1, whichever is first on your motherboard."

Does this really matter if your boot drive is set correctly in BIOS?

Yes, it could make a difference when updating firmware.
