320 / 600 GB in Proliant DL380/G7 - shows as overheating

Just installed 5 of these in a RAID configuration on a test server. Working perfectly, except:

The server is reporting that the drives are overheating (they're not). It appears that possibly I can turn OFF DIPM on these drives and the SMART info will be reported correctly.

How do I do that?

FYI, running windows 2008 r2

Thanks,

Rob

It's a G7 issue...

We were experiencing the same issues running an HP ProLiant DL380 G7 with OCZ SSD drives.

I just performed an update to the iLO3 firmware and the storage controller firmware and things seem to be better. The iLO3 firmware version that I applied was 1.26 and the storage controller firmware was 5.12. The storage controller in use is a P410i.

It is important to note that both the iLO3 firmware and the storage controller firmware had to be updated for the problem to be entirely resolved. I applied the iLO3 firmware first and noticed that the server stopped reporting a critical temperature error. The error LEDs turned off and the fans started running at their normal speeds again. However, the drives were still reporting as overheated. Once I applied the storage controller firmware, the drive status changed from overheated to OK.

FYI - I could not find anything in the firmware release notes to indicate that this problem existed or was fixed.

Yes... The latest iLO3 firmware fixed the issue! Thanks SirHandyMan.

Hi,

Trying to get Vertex 3 to register on brand new DL380 G7's with no luck.

The P410i don't see them at all.

What OCZs are you using?

For those of you who own a OCZ Vertex 3 dirve, have you tried this "dirty trick" ?

It might trick the server to read 30C from the non existing temp sensor...

Have anyone found any SSD (non enterprise) with a temperature sensor?
