P4600 SSD Assert ASSERT_100D688C and disable logical state

The drive failed over the weekend. This is run on a linux system. It does show that a firmware upgrade is available.

There is no information about the assert error. I just would like to know if doing a firmware upgrade is the

best option. My immediate goal would be to get the drive up to a point where I can do a dd of the data from the SSD to another

drive so I have a chance of recovering the file system.

Also I saw the following in the system log

[ 1.593310] nvme nvme0: pci function 0000:d8:00.0

[ 1.706792] nvme 0000:d8:00.0: Could not set queue count (16390)

[ 1.706842] nvme nvme0: IO queues not created

Below is a dump using isdct show -a -intelssd

Hi dbrantley,

Thank you for posting in the Intel® communities.

Unfortunately the issue you are facing is a critical failure and there is no fix for it. Usually, drives in a disable logical state cannot be recovered, however in some cases trying to perform a firmware upgrade may fix it.

I recommend you to try to upgrade the firmware, but if that doesn't work, the best recommendation is to submit a ticket so that you can get further assistance. You can submit a ticket through the following site: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html# @3 Contact Intel Support

Have a nice day.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will attempt the firmware upgrade and post what happens.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, can you tell me exactly what the assert error means?

Also when you say critical failure, does this mean a hardware issue?

Hi dbrantley,

Yes, the failure is with the drive so we can say it's a hardware issue. However, an assert error is most likely related to the software, in this case the software that is running in the drive's microcontroller. An assert error happens when the software that is running reaches a point that it shouldn't reach and it was not expected to reach anyways. This usually happens for unknown reasons so it's hard to know what exactly happened. As the assert errors are related to the software, sometimes the firmware upgrade is able to recover the drive from that unknown point where the software currently is, but sometimes it doesn't recover the drive.I hope this information clarifies your concern.Have a nice day.Regards,Diego V.

I attempted to run the isdct load and it immediately failed with the error

Status : Selected drive is in a disable logical state

I also talked with the vendor we purchased the system from and they said they had seen the error as well

and they had no work arounds.

We are working with our supplier to get a replacement drive.
