Hi, i have an Intel SSD Pro 5400s, which is inaccessible at the moment (can't initialize or create partition).

I have tried secure erase, but without success.

Also tried to run psid_revert, but again with no success

How to resolve the issue? Opal status is Unknown, but when i try to erase, opal is activated...

Thanks.

Hi pesho,

Thank you for the screenshot.

Let me investigate on this to see if there is something else we can try.

On the mean time, could you please get the SMART details of the drive using the Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox available here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28234/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox Download Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox ? Please share the output file by attaching it in your response.

Please also get the log file from the Intel® SSD Pro Admin Tool. The command is explained in the following document: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/solid-state-drives/Intel_SSD_ProAdminTool_... https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/solid-state-drives/Intel_SSD_ProAdminTool_... at page 9 (-log option).

I'll be waiting for your response.

Have a nice day.

Diego V.

Hi pesho,

Thank you for the informationI have noticed that your firmware is LSFL37P, which means your drive is an OEM drive. An OEM drive is a drive that has been flashed with a special firmware developed by the OEM which in this case is Lenovo* if I'm not mistaken.Recently (March 2018) a new firmware was released for the Intel® SSD Pro 5400s Series. This is the firmware 042P/016P, which fixes an issue that in some cases, result in losing access to the drive, which seems to be similar to what you have described.OEM drives doesn't work with our tools, so you won't be able to update the firmware, however you can try to update the firmware using the Intel® SSD Firmware Update Tool which will confirm as well if the drive is indeed an OEM drive. The tool can be downloaded from this site: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28174/Intel-SSD-Firmware-Update-ToolIf you cannot update the firmware, then it means that the drive is an OEM drive. In that case, I highly recommend you to contact the OEM (Lenovo*) to confirm if they have released a new firmware for this drive.I have found this Lenovo* thread where the users are discussing about the firmware LSFL39P, LSFL43P, and others. By looking to the code format of these firmware versions, it may be possible that the one your drive has is out of date, and there is the possibility to update it and therefore, to recover the drive.I hope you find this information useful.Have a nice day.Regards,Diego V.

Your right, i'm unable to update the firmware of the SSD with the intel tools, but the SSD is taken from HP laptop... maybe before that it was in Lenovo machine...

Nevermind, the info You shared with me was very useful

I found the article about the issue with those SSDs, and managed to update it's firmware with the Lenovo tool https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/fwsd48.zip fwsd48.zip (was difficult to find), and now the SSD is accessible again

Now the firmware is LSFL43P.

btw Opal State is still Unknown, is that OK?

Hi pesho,

Thank you for confirming the drive is up and running after updating the firmware.

Regarding to the Opal state, it may be due to the firmware which may be configured to disable Opal. Anyhow, if the drive is working fine, then you don't have to worry about it.

I'm glad to know the information I shared with you was helpful.

Have a nice day.

Diego V.
