Is there a way to check that Intel 530 SSD 480Gb is real, not showing fake information about model and size?

Hello, locally I found a offer for several Intel 530 SSDs - 480Gb on very low price....

Of Course, they are sold as second hand, but even then the price is a bit suspicious.....Such size drive, new, here is around 250 Euros, offered is below 100 Euros....I know that I can check the drive integrity, life, errors etc with my existing Intel toolbox (I already have one 330 series as system disk installed), but I'm afraid from some firmware possible hacks.... for example to shown its size as 480Gb, but in fact to be 64 or 128... like fake micro SD cards sold mainly from China which is offered as 32 or 64Gb, but in fact they are no more than 2-4Gb.....Is there a way to be checked with sure, or Intel Toolbox will find if there is something illegal? Thanks

Hello Minimiro,

If you suspect your product is counterfeit, we recommend you to http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html contact support.

While it is very much understandable that such a bargain may be hard to pass up, we do always recommend purchasing directly from http://locate.intel.com/ Intel® approved resellers to avoid such issues.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. Make sure the label and markings match and are in good condition (Screenshot attached).

2. Check the ISN and SA in our http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/warranty-center.html Warranty Center. (screenshot attached)3. Make sure the screws don't look worn, as they should not have been removed for any reason.4. Check the drive in the Intel® SSD Toolbox, all information should match.

Best regards,

Carlos A.

Hello again

Just to inform you....I received one of this SSDs with test option before payment.... So, first, SSD was without any sticker on bottom side, so I got - serial number from the Intel SSD toolbox, and checked it in warranty center that you provide me... Suspicious here was that this serial number was marked as unknown there...After that I made full test with SSD toolbox, there wasn't shown any mistake or other suspicious things...

But fact that warranty center did not recognize the serial number, stoped me from the deal.....

I continue to believe that somehow firmware (marked as G21 from toolbox) was hacked and information about the size of disk is not true, so I returned it......

Hello Minimiro,

I believe you made the wise choice by returning this drive. Specially considering that missing the label invalidates the warranty of the drive. Please let us know if you have any more questions.Best regards,Carlos A.
