Intel SSD 530 startup problems - Bug in SSD?

I just bought an Intel SSD 530 240GB to replace my Intel SSD510 for my HP Elitebook 8460p.

When i cold-start my computer everything is fine, but when I restart my computer from within a freshly installed windows-7, the drive is not found.

If i turn off the computer and start it again, the drive is found and boots up again as usual. So the drive fails after reset.

I have upgraded the firmware of the SSD to the latest version via the SSD toolbox but still no luck. also updated laptop bios to latest version.

I had no problems in the past with the Intel SSD 510 edition.

Any ideas on what to do?

Clarification:

So, when I insert my Intel 510 SSD and start windows and restart windows it works without problem. But with the Intel 530 it wails when I do restart, the BIOS does not find it after a normal reset. So that must conclude that the Intel SSD 530 has some bug? or is sensitive to some timing issue?

Should I return it? or just assume its incompatible with my laptop?

Having the same problem with HP Elitebooks 8470p with Windows XP and Windows 7 SP1.

Running BIOS F.43 (July 2013) and F.42.

HP thought the problem was because we are still running Windows XP, so I formatted and loaded Windows 7 (we are going through the Windows 7 upgrade in a couple months).

Our solution? Because this is used in an Enterprise Environment we returned the Intel 530 series SSD for the 520 series. We have used the 520 series for over a year and no issues.

Hi All,

I've just received another Lenovo - an E330 and a 530 SSD - Same issue with this one but i can also confirm that switching to Compatibility Mode in the BIOS is a workaround. Fwiw - CPUz Reports this as an HM77 chipset.

Same issue here on HP Elitebook 9470m with 530 240GB.

Bios version; 68IBD F.46

BIOS Date: 07/16/2013

SSD Serial number: BTDA3310016W2403GN

SSD Firmware version: DC12

After a hot restart. SSD is not found (Error message: Boot Device not found. Hard Disk - (3F0)

SSD is not found when running a Hard Drive check (not installed).

Doing a new hot restart or ...five does not help.

Doing a cold restart -> directly into bios -> CTRL +ALT + DEL -WORKS-.

This does not look like a driver issue, since the drive disappears before the OS loads. It looks like a timing issue. The 9470m bios has no apparent HDD time delay or similar functions.

We are an enterprise environment and have used more or less every kind of Intel SSD in HP laptops. We just started switching from 520 to 530 since it was getting harder to find 520's and the 530's where a bit cheaper. We have now this issue on every Elitebook 9470m.

It might be worth mentioning that we have TPM activated.

Same issue for us on HP Elitebook 8470p with 530 series 180GB.

Bios version; 68ICF; F.43

BIOS Date: 07/16/2013

SSD Serial number: BTDA328607NQ1802GN

SSD Firmware version: DC12 (DC02 does not work either)

After a hot restart. SSD is not found (Error message: Boot Device not found. Hard Disk - (3F0)

SSD is not found when running a Hard Drive check (not installed).

Doing a new hot restart or ...five does not help.

Doing a cold restart -> directly into bios -> CTRL +ALT + DEL -WORKS-.

Disabled TPM -- same issue.

Interesting -- Replaced 530 series with 320 Series (older drive) works great and no problems with multiple warm restarts.

Agree with post 41 -- appears to be isolated to the Intel SF2281 controller on the SSD 530 Series and QM77 Intel BIOS.

We just switched to the 530 series as well since the 520 was not available.

We are going to repeat our testing with the 8460's and 8560's just to make sure that Intel® Rapid Storage Technology is installed as some of you pointed it as part of the problem.
