Hello Guys
i am deciding to buy the intel 750 pcie ssd and i was wondering if i can get the full speeds of the ssd or not.you can find my pc specs below;
CPU : intel 3930k 40 Pci Lanes
mobo : Evga X79 Dark
as you know 3930k is not officially support the gen 3.0 but my mobo Evga X79 Dark has Pcie gen 3.0 slots .So what will happen if i place my intel 750 ssd into one of the pcie gen 3.0 slots?is it going to run in gen 3.0 standarts or gen 2.0 standarts?
i am a little bit confused about that.I mean , is the ssd going to work as gen 3.0 even if the cpu officialy doesnt support pcie 3.0 ? or is it just going to need x4 available pci lanes in CPU?
or is it just going to take attention the slot that it has been running in?
Kind Regards

Spirit_Rises Special for you, 750 on Intel DX79SR board with no option to force PCIE Gen3 + Core i7 3960X 3.3Ghz :

Looks like 750 (or Intel NVMe driver) just nevermind about host capabilities and always throw PCIE Gen3 mode . No boot, of course.

thank you so mich for the information so it looks like it will run at full speeds.is it possible to do as ssd or crystal disk benchmark tests for reading and writing speeds?
and why did you say no boot option ? is it because of the motherboard ?

I can, but this have no sense, cause:
1.
2. This exact SSD is already tuned to databases performance (non-default sector size) and should not be used as reference from any point.
Yes, it cannot be used as boot drive, Intel X79 MBs was not conform with UEFI v. 2.3.1 spec (and probably lacks NVMe EFI driver in BIOS).

is this the test you have personally done?
thanks again

Yes, it`s mine. Please don`t loose a note2: this SSD configuration is changed from default.
