Hi all,
I have a 120GB Intel 520 as my boot driver in a Windows 7 x64 system running on an ASUS 5M88a-V EVO motherboard. The SATA is configured to run in RAID mode as I have a striped pair of storage HDDs. I am also using a single 1TB HDD, and a 500GB HDD in an ESATA enclosure. Something very wonky is going on with my drive speeds. In fact, I don't think it is limited to the 520, although that is the one I'd really like to get going.
The Intel Toolbox pops up with a message saying that it cannot find my 520, and that it will refresh, and then the program closes. However, behind this popup, I can see it displaying the basic information of the drive, such as SMART being on, etc.
Here is some info using AS SSD:
As you can see, the 4K64 Thrd is almost the same as the 4k. I read that it should be about 10X faster...
I installed the latest raid drivers from AMD to no avail. Hopefully I'm missing something.
If this helps, here are some 100MB benchmarks of the 1TB drive and the Raid0 (2x160GB HDDs) array:
1TB Drive
Sequential Read : 118.407 MB/s
Sequential Write : 112.491 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 37.510 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 31.032 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.465 MB/s [ 113.5 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 1.793 MB/s [ 437.8 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 0.431 MB/s [ 105.2 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 1.845 MB/s [ 450.3 IOPS]
Raid 0 Pair of HDDs
Sequential Read : 108.983 MB/s
Sequential Write : 113.852 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 37.437 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 74.196 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 0.571 MB/s [ 139.3 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 3.335 MB/s [ 814.2 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 2.552 MB/s [ 623.0 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 4.235 MB/s [ 1034.0 IOPS]
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
did you manage to get a better result? I'm experiencing a similar problem: Intel 520 120GB is performing subpar (I get results very similar to your AS SSD).

Hi Chizzops,
Are you using the AMD SATA driver? If so, can you try with the Microsoft(r) driver?
Todor,
Is your drive installed in an AMD system also?
Thanks.

Hi Ken,
No, I don't have an AMD system. You can find more info in my thread here http://intelopenport.hosted.jivesoftware.com/message/182878# 182878 http://intelopenport.hosted.jivesoftware.com/message/182878# 182878
