HI, I was having the freeze problem like many others. I finally got it fixed in Windows 7 by installing the Intel chipset drivers for series 6.
When this driver installs it adds ATA drivers also. The Microsoft driver did not. I'm including a pic to show what I mean. After the install it did not freeze even after running the toolbox optimizer. Before it would Freeze for about 1 minute.
OK now here's my new problem......
I upgraded to Windows 8 and the freezing began again. I tried to install the chipset drivers again, but in the device manager the ATA drivers are not present anymore. Is there any way to get these back?....I know there are many solutions posted and I tried a few, but none helped.
The ATA are only present in Win7 not Win8.
