Hi All -
I recently purchased an x25-v SSD from amazon. Before plopping it into my computer, I popped it into an enclosure to make sure that the drive is alright, and it doesn't seem to be. Rather than behaving as a hard drive should (popping up in my computer, being available for chkdsk and such) it has decided to label itself "protected" and sit idly on my desktop.
I have tested the enclosure with another SATA drive, as well as the hard drive in both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04.
Is this a problem people are having? Thanks for any advice...I would add more technical details but I'm new to the hard drive discussion and am not sure what might be of value.

Hi,
very odd.
Try connecting it directly to teh sata controller on board, then see how it is recognsed in BIOS and in windows, see if you can format it from windows and if not try a low level format/secure erase with something like HDAT2. If none if that helps then get it rerplaced.

Do you mean the SATA controller in the laptop?
