X25-V 40GB in Dell Mini10 Netbook

What can I do so I can optimize my new drive?

I have the latest firmware installed. I am running XP Pro. I installed the Toolbox and when I try to optimize the drive, it stops because of detecting raid.

I don't think I can have a raid problem because there is only 1 drive, the X25-V.

Thanks

Herman

Ceck the BIOS SATA Operation Mode. If its like other Dell's, it may be set to IRRT / RAID from the factory. If so, don't change it as you may need to reinstall or tweak for the OS to work.

The Mini 10 doesn't allow any configuration for the disk controller. However, I think that particular model uses an IDE-SATA bridge chip and this is probably what the tool is objecting to.

Is there a work around so I can optimize the drive? Is optimizing that important?

I don't think it's all that important - at least I don't worry about it on my Dell Mini 9, whose SSD doesn't support TRIM (and isn't an Intel drive.) The Intel drives do a good job of keeping performance up as the drive ages. Others may have different opinions.
