Just did the firmware update and it hosed my Windows 7 installation. The updater showed a successful firware update. Initially the computer booted just fine, but once I was within Windows it installed some drivers and asked for a reboot. That's when the trouble started. Now the drive won't boot Windows 7 anymore. I don't know if it's a Dell problem or Intel problem. The Dell BIOS claims a SMART error. I have a Dell XPS 8000.

If this is of any help, I flashed 26/10/09 after reading the Anandtech article.
Win 7 64-bit Pro
Asus P5Q Pro with Q6600 O/C to 3GHz - 2102 bios
4Gb RAM
1 80GB SSD as main boot
1 640GB SATA drive
Running AHCI - both during flash and after.
Flash install was fine, rebooted and new drivers installed message.
Reboot fine and subsequently have rebooted several times including fully switching the system off.
Still to do - create new ghost image and re-image back.
One question - as I had already installed Win 7 Pro before updating drive firmware to enable trim, will trim just start working? i.e what about the data already on the drive which had been created/deleted before the new firmware?

Hi,
i also tried to update the firmware without having read all these posts. I followed exactly the instructions that Intel wrote and the update was succesful.
I rebooted and the laptop entered the OS with no problem. I then saw the message at the bottom right corner stating that IntelSSD160GB was found. A message for a restart for the changes to take effect popped up and i restarted. Bios booted and nothing... Tried to repair Windows via booting from DVD still nothing. Tried to install still nothing.
I removed the drive and put it in an extenal case and went to the desktop. Guess what the partition was RAW!!! Deleted the partitions and reinstalled windows and that seedmed to do the trick. After an hour or two a message came up and said that my drive was about to fail and S.M.A.R.T. reported it bad!!!!
I think it's a shame to pay so much for a product and have it broken by the Manufacturer!!!! I removed the drive before it completely fails and now i'm waiting for a new firmware solution to walk around the problem before i initiate the procedure to send it back....

Trim will work for files deleted by Win7 after installation of the firmware. The purpose of SSD Tools is to scavange the file system for files deleted from all partitions and perform trim on the associated SSD blocks. Thus, SSD Tools should be scheduled to run periodically to clean up the SSD blocks corresponding to files deleted using another OS, in the case of dual boot with XP, etc.
