Which command line tool for S3500 SSD temperature behind RAID controller RS25DB080?

To be able to compare different fan setups I'm logging the temperatures of my drives. All drives are connected to an Intel RAID Controller RS25DB080. Using storcli (storcli64) or CmdTool2 (CmdTool264) I'm getting the temperatures of my HDDs. For my Intel DC S3500 Series SSDs (SSDSC2BB240G401) I'm getting "N/A" instead. The spec sheet @ http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-specifications/ssd-dc-s3500-spec... http://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/documents/product-specifications/ssd-dc-s3500-spec... states: "The Intel® SSD DC S3500 Series has an internal temperature sensor with an accuracy of +/-2C over a range of -20C to +80C which can be monitored using two SMART attributes: [...] Device Internal Temperature (C2h)." I tried SmartmonTools and CrystalDiskInfo without success - they don't support my RAID controller with my OS: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 64 bit.

Will a future release of storcli or CmdTool2 return the SSD temperature instead of N/A?

Which command line tool or dll can I use to get the current SSD temperature behind my RS25DB080?

Hello Geog,

As you mentioned, the Intel® SSD DC S3500 Series has temperature monitoring and logging capabilities. These values can normally be monitored with Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Tool and Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Tool, however, these tools work for drives in Non-RAID and iRST configurations.

Support for this feature in your system depends on the RAID controller firmware/drivers, and the way they present the SATA SMART information from the SSD.

The http://download.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/rs25ab080/sb/rs25ab080_rs25sb080_rs25nb008_rs2... Tested Hardware and Operating System List for the Intel® RAID Controller RS25DB8080, page 19, lists the DC S3500 as being compatible to be attached to this controller if the drive has firmware 0355. Please check if your SSD DC S3500 is using firmware 0355 and update your RAID adapter FW and drivers.

* Remember to verify you have valid back up of your data, and to make any necessary preparations before performing driver or firmware updates to your RAID array controller.

Hello Jonathan,

I did almost update everything to the newest version but the problem still exists:

DC S3500 Series SSD Firmware was and is 0370.

RS25DB080 BIOS was 5.45.07.0_4.16.08.00_0x06030501 (Build November 12, 2013) and is 5.46.02.1_4.16.08.00_0x06060A03 (Build June 03, 2014).

RS25DB080 Firmware Version was 3.340.55-3173 and is 3.400.45-3507.RS25DB080 Firmware Package Version was 23.22.0-0020 and is 23.28.0-0015.RS25DB080 Firmware Build Time was Feb 24 2014;13:40:34 and is Jun 06 2014;13:33:19.RS25DB080 WebBIOS Version was 6.1-71-Rel and is 6.1-72-01-Rel.

RS25DB080 Driver was 6.701.04.00 and is 6.705.05.00.

RAID Web Console 2 was 13.08.04.01 and is 14.08.01.06.

RES2SV240 Expander Firmware was and is 13.

RES2CV360 Expander Firmware was and is 13.

storcli Version was 1.09.08 and is 1.13.08.

CmdTool2 Version was 8.05.06 and is 8.07.15.

After the firmware update of my RS25DB080 I did a 'Set Factory Defaults' as suggested by the ir3_2208SASHWR_FWPKG-v23.28.0-0015_readme.txt.

Windows_RWC2_v14.08.01.06_readme.txt contains:

RAID Web Console 2

14.08.00.00 Enhancements: MR6.5: 1)SCGCQ00650088 MR FW to report the HDD Temperature for all drives (SAS and SATA, including SSD)

But still I don't get the temperatures of my SSDs with storcli or CmdTool2, they return 'N/A' instead. (And RAID Web Console 2 also does not show a line with temperature info for an SSD.)

The SSDs are not connected through an expander. The connection is:

RS25DB080 <-> AXXCBL740MS7P (only Mini-SAS 8087 and SATA style connectors in use) <-> AXX4DRV3GR <-> AXX25DRVADPTR (no electrical connection) <-> SSDSC2BB240G401 (x 2: RAID1)

The other two drives in this AXX4DRV3GR are HDDs (x 2: RAID1) and I get their temperatures. The firmware of AXX4DRV3GR is unknown and I have no hardware to update its firmware.

Thank you for all the information you provided. It seems that your Intel® RAID Controller RS25DB8080 and the monitoring tools are not getting all the SMART information correctly from the SSD. We will research more about this condition and will let you know once we have more information, or any possible actions to resolve it.
