Hi SHohl,

Thank you for contacting Intel® SSD support group with your request for assistance for your Intel® SSD 520 Series (480GB, 2.5in SATA 6Gb/s, 25nm, MLC).

We have reviewed your inquiry and unfortunately we can’t be of help, there’s no Master Key or any other kind of unlocking tool provided by Intel® for this purpose.

Most of the time, ATA security is set on BIOS and some manufacturers enable security through a Master Password; you might get some help from your system manufacturer with this feature.

You have mentioned your system is running the Linux OS and most distributions include the hdfarm Tool, were you might get the Master Password set on BIOS; however, as indicated above, please get in contact with your system’s manufacturer for support on this BIOS feature.

You might want to refer to the following website for additional information about ATA Security: http://www.admin-magazine.com/Archive/2014/19/Using-the-ATA-security-features-of-modern-hard-disks-a...

Please feel free to get back to Intel® communities, whenever you might feel necessary.

Best regards,

Santiago A.
