Can I treat the Intel DC P3600 1.6TB PCIE NVME as a normal ssd and use it as a boot drive without any repercussions?

I'm using the ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 motherboard. I would like to use the Intel DC P3600 1.6TB PCIE NVME as a normal ssd and install Windows 10 on it. I don't have any other drives. If it does work, what problems could I encounter?

Hello janeong,

Thank you for your interest in the Intel® SSD DC P3600 Series. I understand that you want to know if you will encounter any issue if you connect your data center SSD to your motherboard. This kind of setup should not generate any issue, you should be able to install Windows* 10 and use the DC SSD the same way as you would use a consumer SSD.I checked your motherboard's specifications and didn't found any port incompatibility issue. Please keep in mind that compatibility information should be provided by the motherboard's manufacturer, so contact them to get the corresponding confirmation (https://www.asus.com/us/support/ https://www.asus.com/us/support/). Also, in order to get the best performance from your SSD, we suggest you to install the corresponding drivers, please check the following link for more information:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27362/Datacenter-NVMe-Microsoft-Windows-Drivers-for-Intel-... https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27362/Datacenter-NVMe-Microsoft-Windows-Drivers-for-Intel-... If you have any other question, don't hesitate to contact us. Regards,Andres V.

Well I have the Intel DC P3600 NVME SSD. However, I can not update it. It says: Please contact your Intel representative about firmware update for this drive.

Hello janeong,

I understand that you are getting an error message while trying to update your drive. Is this the only issue you have experienced after connecting the drive to your motherboard? Could you please share a screenshot of the error message?Additionally, could you please answer the following questions?• Did you installed the corresponding driver (link provided in the previous message)?• What firmware version you have currently installed? The latest firmware available is 8DV101H0 with Bootloader 8B1B0133.• What tool are you using to install the latest firmware? This because the official tool that can perform such task is the Intel® SSD DCT ( https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27248?v=t).• Which slot you used to connect the SSD to your motherboard?I'll be waiting for your response.Regards,Andres V.

Good day,

Thanks for replying!

I have installed the Intel SSD toolbox, the NVME driver, and the Data Center Tool.

Bootloader Revision is 8B1B012E.

Firmware Revision is 8DV1RA13.

I installed the NVME SSD on the second x16 PCIe slot with it set it Auto.

I don't know if I have the latest firmware.
