"Disable write caching" option in SSD drive property page

Hey all,

So I followed Intel's advice (I'm not sure it's an advice really, as it just describes HOW to do it, not the purpose), from here:

"Disable write caching on Intel® Solid-State Drives"

: http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-031690.htm http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-031690.htm

And the results are the OPPOSITE as what's intended I think...

Check these images:

So hmm.. I'm not sure what's going on..

The drive is a 80GB G2, and OS is XP 32Bit with AHCI driver. Please advise, why would Intel recommend this? o_O

Hi,

Your supposition's correct, Intel does not recommend disable write caching, quite on contrary, it's only an "exercise".

You can see that in: http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/x25m/sb/CS-031542.htm http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/x25m/sb/CS-031542.htm

valdir, thanks for your answer.

I agree with you that write-caching should be left ENABLED.

Then, this page is very confusing: http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-031690.htm http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-031690.htm

I think Intel should definitely specifiy that it should NOT be done! (then what is the purpose of this tutorial, I wonder...).
