SSD: Number of "Unsafe Shutdowns" increases after each hibernation of Windows 10

Hello,

I noticed the following on my new Laptop with an Intel SSD 660p 1TB SSD: Each time I hibernate Windows the value of the SMART attribute "Unsafe Shutdowns" increases by one. When I shutdown Windows with the "Fast startup" feature enabled (which effectively hibernates the Windows kernel), the value increases by one as well. When I shutdown Windows with the "Fast startup" feature disabled, the value doesn't increase. So the cause for the increase of the "Unsafe Shutdowns" value seems to be the hibernation.

Should I worry about this behaviour, or can it be ignored? Could it be that this is a bug in Windows' hibernation code?

Hello @BrusC_Intel,

I found a solution to the problem that the "Unsafe Shutdowns" value increases after each hibernation: I installed the driver from "https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29172/Client-NVMe-Microsoft-Windows-Drivers-for-Intel-SSDs...". Now the "Unsafe Shutdowns" value doesn't increase any more after hibernation.

The previously installed driver was (according to the device manager): Intel NVMe Controller Version 17.8.0.1065 [09.12.2019]. As the new driver doesn't show the problem anymore, but the old driver does show it, it is probable that it's a bug in the old driver that causes the described problem.

The newly installed driver is listed as "Intel SSD 660p Series" in the device manager.

Regards,

Matthias B.

Hello! May be you can give me an advice with the same problem. I am using a SSD inside an Orico portable storage (https://www.thunderbolttechnology.net/product/tom2t3-g40-bl-tbt3-ssd) based on the Intel® JHL6340 Thunderbolt™ 3 Controller with my Macbook pro M1 (Monterey). And I noticed that the number of "Unsafe Shutdowns" in SMART DATA increases after each "safely disconnection" of this storage. When I turn my Macbook off it doesn't happen. I'd be really gratefull  for your help.
