I have a Toshiba laptop series C855 running Windows 8.1. I am trying to clone the hard drive to a series 530 240gb SSD. The SSD has been updated to firmware DC32 on another system. When connected via USB, the SSD is recognized in Windows 8.1 and has been initialized but not formatted. But when similarly connected via USB, the drive is not recognized by the Intel SSD Toolbox on the laptop or on the Windows 7 desktop used to update the firmware. When I run the Intel data migration software, upon the reboot that should begin the cloning operation, the laptop goes to a screen that lists boot devices from the bios, but the migration software bootloader does not run. I read in a post that I should interrupt the boot and select the Acronis bootloader in the bios. I don't know what that means and neither does Toshiba. I have cloned many hard drives and never had a problem with Acronis True Image, but I don't know how to get it to work in this case. What do I need to do???

Hello BossHog, the Intel® SSD Toolbox will only recognize the Intel® SSD when connected to a SATA port.
On the other hand, we expect the Acronis* bootloader to appear in the boot device list of your BIOS. You may try changing the boot order if possible or creating a bootable media as explained in the page 12 of the following user guide: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19324/eng/Intel_Data_Migration_Software_User_Guide_324324-002US.pdf http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19324/eng/Intel_Data_Migration_Software_User_Guide_324324-002US.pdf
There is also the option to use a third party free cloning tool such as the options below.

I am sorry for the inconvenience; I hope any of the options presented will solve your issue.

Thanks for your reply. I hate to shatter your expectations, but the Acronis bootloader did not appear in the bios selections on my laptop. Create a bootable media? Only as a last resort. Otherwise "forget about it." That said, your suggested list of free software struck gold. EaseUS worked great and automatically resized the main partition to the full SSD without increasing the size of the other tiny partitions or the recovery partition. Much better than either of the other selections. I was sure that the Intel software would be better than the free versions, but I was wrong. Your Acronis based solution is not ready for the UEFI world. To anyone else cloning a a laptop HHD to an SSD, I would say go immediately to EaseUS to do Backup and "forget about it."
