Hello
I have recently bought a pair of new DC P4510 U.2 drives and when I did a quick performance
check using
hdparm -tT --direct /dev/nvme0n
on Debian 11 I noticed that one drive gives just 1449.88 MB/sec while the other drive maxes out at 2590.08 MB/sec. Both drives have the same FW VDV10182 and have negotiated the same PCIe link speed (8GT/s,x4). I have also cross tested with another system and received the same results.
Should I RMA the drive in question?
Regards

Hello, Cliffdale89.
Thank you for your reply.
We have been working on reviewing the logs you shared with us, and we noticed the following:
1- The SSU logs do not reflect your Intel® SDD as connected to the system.
2- The SMART logs are not showing any hardware issue with the SSD.
We advise you to use another tool to test your SSD performance like FIO (http://freshmeat.sourceforge.net/projects/fio) instead of the hdparm since it was designed to be used with ATA/SATA and may not provide you with accurate readings.
Please review the following public information as a reference to test your SSD:
- How to benchmark SSDs with FIO Visualizer
https://itpeernetwork.intel.com/how-to-benchmark-ssds-with-fio-visualizer/
- Evaluation Guide for Intel® Solid State Drive DC P4510 Series using Linux* Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) with FIO*
Please follow this article as a reference since it is for SSD on VROC, but it will provide you with the information necessary to run your test.
We would be looking forward to your reply in case that you need further assistance.
We will follow up with you again on Friday, the 1st of October 2021, if we do not receive an answer from you. Please, let us know if you would like to schedule a different date for the follow-up.
Best regards.

Hello, Cliffdale89.
I wanted to follow up on your thread to check if further assistance is still required.
We previously shared some information on how to perform the SSD evaluations and also mentioned that the SSD looks fine according to the reports, so we tried to confirm if you had other questions.
The thread will be closed right now since there has been no confirmation, but if you require any type of assistance from Intel in the future, please open a new thread or contact us via any of the available support methods: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html
Best regards.
