Hi,
Is my Intel SSD 540s Series 480GB drive going bad?
I have it in a Nuc. I ran the Intel SSD Toolbox and attached is the result. It says, “Error: an error was detected reading data from the selected intel SSD....”
In windows explorer, it takes a long time to load a folder with a bunch of videos files in it. I would see the cursor wheel just keep spinning. The pc would then freeze after while and I would then do a hard boot. This is the symptom I’ve seen so far.
If it’s going bad, would it be covered under any warranty? It’s been several years already.
Thanks.
Mark

Hello MarkM,
Thank you for your patience.
Based on the logs you shared we can not determine any hardware issue related to the Intel® SSD 540s Series and our recommendations are the following:
• We will appreciate it if you can run the firmware update in your SSD to the latest available version using the Intel® Memory and Storage Tool (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/29428/Intel-Memory-and-Storage-Tool-GUI-). Section 6.2 of the User Guide (https://downloadmirror.intel.com/29428/eng/Intel-MAS-GUI-1.0.5-User-Guide-342845-001US.pdf) includes the instructions on how to do it.
To update the firmware on an Intel® SSD:
1. Back up the Intel SSD.
Perform a complete system backup on the Intel SSD to make sure no data is lost during the firmware
update process. Intel is not responsible for any data loss that might occur during or after a firmware
update on an Intel SSD.
2. Close all open applications except the Intel MAS tool.
3. Select the Intel SSD you want to update on the home screen.
4. Select Firmware Update.
5. Click Update to update the selected Intel SSD with the firmware version included with this release of
Intel MAS tool. Minimize system use during this operation.
6. Reboot your system once the update is complete.
• After confirming that you have the latest version of the firmware, please follow the steps in the When to Run a Low-Level Format or Secure Erase on Intel® Solid State Drives and Tools to Use article (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006198/memory-and-storage.html)
