Be wary of the new Intel SSD 320 series. Currently, there's a bug in the
controller that can cause the device to revert to 8MB during a power failure. AFAIK they have not yet publicly announced it, and won't have a firmware fix ready for release until the end of July. We had an SSD 320 600GB 2.5" SATA drive in for evaluation from our Intel rep. I was able to kill it in two or three hours by power cycling it. Apparently (according to the Intel rep) when the power failure is happening, the SSD device tries to reconnect with the SATA port instead of initiating a proper shutdown. Something to do with interrupt priority being higher for reconnection rather than a proper shutdown.I don't know how much truth is to this post. Has there been any official acknowledgement of this problem?

I am posting here because i think there is a issue with my 320 80GB and the smart reading of the powercycle count ,i think it must be firmware related .
Abouth two months ago i made a screen of the smart together with postvilles and made a raid0 setup with 320 and postvilles , with os XP32 bit .
Now i look on the smart and the powercycle count for the 320 doesnt show correct , it says 24 it must be over500 . If there is going to be a firmware update i hope it records that smart in raid0 properly
postvile and 320 - screens from 7 may 2011 and from 26 juli 2011

I've covered this topic already, but I'll some further fact to it: SMART attributes, from the factory, **DO NOT NECESSARILY COME ZEROED**. Period. It's like this with most vendors; there is a brief testing procedure that happens before the drive gets boxed and shipped out to consumers, and SMART attributes aren't zeroed after that test is performed.
If you want evidence of this, I can provide some, but it's easier just to trust me.
Summary: what you're seeing IS NOT FIRMWARE RELATED. It is normal.
