HELP - Enabling AHCI in Windows 7 on Macbook Pro

I've been reading around but haven't figured out a way to enable AHCI in Windows 7 for a Macbook Pro. I do not believe doing that registry hack does anything for me (here is the hack i'm talking about). It seems you have to run some type of script to get it to work, looks complicated!

Vista 32/64 Windows 7 32/64

- Run Regedit- Navigate to "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci "- edit the "Start" key and change the value from what it is to "0"- this will tell Vista to check for AHCI on next boot and install the AHCI driver if it is in AHCI mode- this installs the generic AHCI Microsoft driver and it is really a poor driver for your hardware and you will need the Intel ones to get full performance.

Has anyone actually enabled it on a mac laptop or desktop? How do I know if AHCI is enabled or not or actually working? Do I have to run the script every time I use Windows 7?

Setup on Intel X25-M 160gb G2:

Windows 7 x64 Ultimate 40gb

Mac Snow Leopard 120gb

If you have the latest gen Macbook Pro this is not possible. Apple crippled the AHCI function in it's EFI firmware when booting into Windows. Until someone figures out how to patch the MBR on the new Macbooks this will not be possible. This is the main reason why I returned my macbook pro.

Does that apply to ALL unibody macbook pros? I have the late 2008 model (the one where they didn't cripple the SATA speed) AND i have the removable battery (I can't live without it)!

I think you are out of luck with those models also. I believe the MBR hack only functions on Macbooks running on Intel chipsets. I believe the 2008 and 2009 models use the Nvidia 9400M chipset.

Hmm. That's interesting. I have the latest Macbook Pro 2009. I assume I'm running AHCI because under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers i have Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller enabled. Is there any other way of seeing if i'm using AHCI?
