explorer.exe increases I/O write bytes

I have a Toshiba laptop, core i5, Intel x25M 80G G2. My question is: Does anyone know why the explorer.exe process generates too much I/O write bytes? A simple search on my home network, or the copy of a file from one external drive to another increases as if the file was actually copied temporarily on the internal drive. I check everyday the SMART attributes with the Toolbox and a simple day of file-sharing ends with exaggerated increase of writings on the drive.

This article may help explain what is happening. Most apps that monitor IO record all IO operations, not just those that occur on the physical disk. Try hIOmon if you want to dig deeper.
