Hello DmitriyA,

HIPM and DIPM together will provide better power saving, it is recommended to use the HIPM+DIPM setting in your Power Plan whenever possible. The http://download.intel.com/design/flash/nand/mainstream/Specification322296.pdf Intel® X25-M SSD series supports DIPM, but can also work with HIPM only.

Please keep in mind that the Storage controller must be in AHCI (SATA) mode, and that some systems and OS versions may not allow modifying these power Settings.

Additionally, you can use the System Tuner from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/18455/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox Intel® SSD Toolbox to make sure relevant Windows® features are optimized, this includes DIPM.

HIPM+DIPM or DIPM for Intel X25-M SSD in ThinkPad X61s?

Hi All,

It's well known that Intel recommends that DIPM be enabled for Intel SSDs. Besides that, in its publication called "Designing energy efficient SATA devices" Intel states:

Each of these (HIPM/DIPM) provides power savings by themselves; maximum power savings, however, are achieved when both are implemented together.

Do I get it right that ACHI LPM setting HIPM+DIPM suits best for all of the above to be achieved with a ThinkPad X61s with an Intel X25-M G2 SSD inside? Or "DIPM be enabled" implies only DIPM, i.e. no HIPM?

Many thanks in advance!

Hi Jonathan - thank you: actually HIPM+DIPM appears to be there already in some power plans, so I'm selecting the same in all others then (AHCI is on already).

Thanks & Regards,

Dmitriy
