Intel SSD 750 -Trouble installing driver 1.3.0.1007 over 1.2.1002. I get message "Fatal error during installation"

Hi jonathan_intel,

I have trouble installing driver 1.3.0.1007 over the top of 1.2.1002. I get message "Fatal error during installation"

I have tried all permutations of upgrading or uninstalling 1.2.0.1002 and driver installation utility or manual driver update from device manager.

If your driver gurus will be so kind as to look at my problem I will be very grateful.

Please try the following actions as they have helped to other users in similar scenarios:

- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23929/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Family-for-NVMe-Drivers Download Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers, 1.3.0.1007 again to discard a corrupted installer.

- Reboot the PC and try the installation again.

- Disable Antivirus software, and any other software that may be accessing/scanning the drive at the time of driver installation.

If the issue persists, we will need more information: Motherboard brand and model, SSD model (2.5 inch or AiC), OS version, is this the boot drive? or is it a data drive?

Hello OC_Freak,

Please apply the following actions to remove the driver completely, then install the new one:

- Back up any important data that you may have in the SSD (best practice before this type of actions)

- Save the Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers to a location in your boot drive, or a removable media.

- Go to Windows* Device manager, Storage Controllers, right click the 750 SSD and select "uninstall", Make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

- Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager again and if an older driver is installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it.

- Install the latest Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers that you downloaded before.

I followed your instructions as above precisely, however, the Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers GUI gave me the same error message, as above.

The good news is that in Device manager, "PCI device" showed up after the 750 SSD disappeared from Storage Controllers.

I uninstalled "PCI device" a few times and did a re-boot and uninstalled "PCI device" again a few times, it kept coming back showing no drivers installed.

I then, under device properties, clicked "Update Driver" button and browsed to the "Driver64" folder of the Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers,

named (on my machine) "Intel Windows NVMe driver 1.3.0.1007 x32-x64_test".

The driver then installed correctly 🙂 .
