Well I'm having the same problem installing Windows 7 with the same drive (535 Series 240Gb)... If I disable AHCI settings at my BIOS (Which basically turns the drives in IDE), then the SSD shows up at the Windows 7 setup (Weird for a relatively recent device) If you go on It will actually let you install Windows 7 BUT the performance of the driver is totally random... so at the end, as you, I have not been able to make it run as expected.

I wonder how a company such as Intel can't just simply SHARE the drivers for their devices to run properly... "Intel's data migration sw" just won't help if you are basically building a new setup as I am.

Gautham. I saw that a guy fixed this issue formatting the drive (plugin it via USB) as NTFS an then running the installer again.

Hope this helps

I tried to install the Intel data migration software to migrate data from my old HDD to Intel 535 SSD. But it so happened that my windows vista does not detect the ssd for the installation to complete. Looks like the device driver for 535 SSD is different form the regular device drivers that vista has. Can someone suggest on how i could get over this hurdle. Where i could find the device driver for the Intel 535 SSD for windows VISTA. thanks in advance.

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply. I have not gone till this stage. the issue that I face is that, when i connect the ssd to my laptop (externally) for the first time even before i install the Data migration tool the ssd is not detected. i think the default device driver on my Vista OS does not support it. i tried to upgrade the driver but still does not work.

Regards,

Gautham

The clone process with Intel® Data Migration Software requires that an Intel® SSD is properly detected, however, we have noticed that in some systems, the information of the SSD model is not passed properly, this is often the case with older systems, external connectors, or with 3rd party USB-to-SATA adapters. If the SSD is not identified and an Intel product, then IDMS will not be able to perform the migration.

Have you checked if the SSD is detected in Windows Disk Management?

If the drive is detected as a storage device, but not recognized as an Intel® SSD by IDMS, then we advise you to http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport Contact Support for further assistance and other possible options.

Hello Gautham,

In the picture you sent before, we can see an SSD connected to USB, as we understand, this is your new Intel® SSD 535 Series.

Since you mentioned that IDMS does not detect the drive as an Intel® SSD, it means that the drive details are not going through the USB connection. In this case these are the options we recommend:

- Try connecting the drive to a different USB port.

- Go to the http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport Contact Support website, select your preferred contact method and engage your nearest support center to check for further assistance.

Hello,

We understand this situation can be confusing, so I would like to summarize some of the information about this:

- SATA SSD's do not require drivers, they are raw storage devices that communicate directly with the storage controller. The storage adapter does require drivers, normally built-in the OS, or provided by the PC manufacturer.

- Intel® Data Migration Software is a straight-forward tool that allows users to clone drives. Since it is a propietary tool, it requires one of the drives to be an Intel® SSD. We have noticed that some systems do not pass the drive's identification; when this happens, the SSD is detected as a generic device and IDMS does not allow the migration.

- There are some workarounds that may work, like trying the main SATA ports in the computer (source and target connected to contiguous ports), using a different USB port, different USB-SATA adapter, updating BIOS. Also, you may try the bootable media method of IDMS instead of the Windows® application.

- If the Migration process does not complete after trying these actions, please http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport Contact Support to engage a support agent, we will be glad to provide further assistance and recommendations.

Jonathan - Can you please explain how to go about creating bootable media migration method when the Intel 535 SSD is only recognized as generic USB drive? From reading the Migration user guide, on page 12, I see this that seems to indicate it cannot be done:

"If you have chosen not to install the Bootable Media Builder during Intel Data Migration Software installation, you will not be able to use this feature. "

From that, I assume one must first install the Data Migration Software, but that fails when the SSD is not recognized as Intel.

Hello Steve_Babiak,

The option to create the bootable media with Intel® Data Migration Software is only available once the software is installed as mentioned in the User Guide.

There are some workarounds you can try in case the SSD is not detected as an Intel drive:

- Try connecting the SSD to a different port.
- Use a different cable.- Check for updated BIOS and drivers from the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support.

If the issue persists, please http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html Contact Support and obtain further options from a support agent in your region.

So I was also having issues with data migration because the Intel 535 SSD was not being recognized properly (running XP but that wasn't any part of the real issue). As it turns out, the Intel answer to the FAQ item that reads "Unable to complete data migration using Intel® Data Migration Software" (see link at http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/software/000005872.html Troubleshooting Intel® SSD Recognition Issues for Software) had the correct answer for me: use a different interface cable. I tried KingWin brand cables from MicroCenter with no success; today I went to MicroCenter and purchased an Inland IL25621-U2 2.5" External SATA hard Drive Enclosure (USB 2.0), and this allowed the Intel 535 SSD to be recognized as an Intel product when connected via a USB2 port - this was a $5 solution, and the cables that did not work for e cost a couple times that. And my migration has completed and the laptop is using that Intel SSD as I am typing this.
