topic Issues initializing Intel 750 PCI SSD on Asus WS motherboard in Solid State Drives (NAND)

Hello forum,

Yesterday I took my new Intel 750 PCI SSD and was able to get it working on my personal machine with the new Asus AZ170, and installed everything I needed on it (Windows 7 64bit and some VFX software). However when I put it inside my primary workstation as a boot drive, I can't seem to boot into it. It's an Asus Z10PE-D16 WS. It doesn't have the newer GUIs that the consumer motherboards do, and there is little documentation on this mobo.

This is my system for work so I really need to get this running, any ideas?

I set the CSM settings, enabled, UEFI only, PCI devices and boot devices, but still nothing.

Hello DrakeWelsh,

As I understand, your system based on the Asus* Z10PE-D16 WS does not boot using you new Intel® SSD 750 Series. Here are some important aspects I noticed based on your description of the issue:

- I am not sure I understood correctly, but, if you installed the OS using your Asus* Z170 motherboard, and then moved the drive to a different system, it is possible that the boot process will fail. You should do a clean install of the OS with the drive in the computer that will be used with it.

- We advise you to check with Asus about the settings required in the BIOS for your system to boot from a PCIe* NVMe* SSD. The document we have does not include motherboards with Z170 or C612 chipsets, however, you might want to review it and use for reference:

http://www.intel.com/support/ssdc/hpssd/sb/CS-035481.htm Intel® High Performance Solid-State Drives — Booting an NVMe* PCI Express* Solid State Drive

Before considering any further options, try the following actions as they may help in this case:

1. Contact the http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm Computer Manufacturer Support to obtain and update the BIOS of your motherboard BIOS. Among the fixes for BIOS version 1202 you can find: 13. Support NVMe devices and 16. SupportsASUS Hyper Kit device.

For you convenience, here is the link to Asus Support:

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z10PED16_WS/HelpDesk_Download/ Z10PE-D16 WS | Motherboards | ASUS Global

*NOTE: This link is being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

2. Update the Firmware of your Intel® SSD 750 using https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23931/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Tool Intel® SSD Data Center Tool (currently 2.3.0)

3. Make sure to use the current version of the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/23929/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Data-Center-Family-for-NVMe-Drivers Intel® Solid-State Drive Data Center Family for NVMe Drivers (currently 1.3.0.1007).
