Copying data from a failing hard drive is not only a bad idea but typically causes these kinds of problems. In this case, if a sector is bad on the drive, you are not going to be able to migrate the data. You may be able to copy data from the drive, but a migration/clone will not be possible if damaged sectors exist.

I am trying to replace my failing HD in a Dell XPS Studio laptop with a SSD 530 180 gb, The migration software seems to work fine until iti starts to read and I get this error message. I have tried several times with the same result each time. I don''t want to do a clean install of my Windows 7. Is there a way to make the disk readable or an alternate cloning software that might be more effective?
