Hello solidigmuser347,

Based on the available D7-PS1010 documentation, SR-IOV is not listed as a supported feature for the Solidigm D7-PS1010. The documented feature set includes NVMe 2.0, NVMe-MI, OCP support, security and manageability features, power management, latency monitoring, SGL, and related enterprise SSD capabilities, but it does not list SR-IOV, Virtual Functions, secondary controllers, or NVMe virtualization management support.

The behavior you observed is also consistent with SR-IOV not being supported by the drive. If nvme virt-mgmt, nvme list-secondary, and nvme primary-ctrl-caps all report unsupported, and there is no sriov_numvfs entry under sysfs, then the device is not exposing PCIe SR-IOV or NVMe virtualization capabilities to the host.

Enabling SR-IOV in UEFI is required for devices that support SR-IOV, but it does not enable the feature on a PCIe endpoint that does not implement it. Since SR-IOV is working with other components in the same system, this does not appear to be a platform or BIOS configuration issue.

Kind regards.

Hello,

I own U.2 D7 PS1010 running latest 150 firmware and I would like to know if SR-IOV is supported. I have tried looking everywhere and can't find any sort of confirmation.

nvme virt-mgmt, nvme list-seoncdary, nvme primary-ctrl-caps all report unsupposed feature and there is no sriov_numvfs under /sys/pci

I do have SR-IOV support enabled in UEFI and use it fine with other components, so I would like clarification/confirmation about D7 PS1010 and SR-IOV support.

Thanks.

Hello,

it is sad that virtualization doesn't seem to be feature of latest gen enterprise drive, it wasn't advertised on the product page so I'm not mad just curious.

"The documented feature set includes NVMe 2.0"

The thing is that SR-IOV is part of that spec, is there any deeper reason why that specifically is not supported? IE. reserved to other models, and if so which? or something deeper, lets say not supported by the controller?

And if neither are the case, is there a chance for firmware update release that would enable virtualization? IIRC intel era enterprise drives supported it so why would that not be the case with current gen ones?

Thanks.

Re: does D7 PS1010 support SR-IOV?

Hello solidigmuser347,

You are correct that NVMe includes virtualization-related mechanisms, but those capabilities are optional and must be explicitly implemented and advertised by the device. NVMe revision support alone does not imply SR-IOV support.

For SR-IOV, the SSD must expose PCIe SR-IOV capability and the related NVMe virtualization capabilities, such as SR-IOV indication and Virtualization Management support. These are represented in controller capability fields such as CMIC.SRIOV and OACS.VirtualizationMgmt.

For the D7-PS1010, SR-IOV / NVMe virtualization is not listed in the published product feature set. The behavior you observed is consistent with the drive not exposing those capabilities:

nvme virt-mgmt unsupported indicates no NVMe Virtualization Management support is exposed.

nvme list-secondary and nvme primary-ctrl-caps unsupported indicate no exposed primary/secondary controller virtualization model.

no sriov_numvfs in sysfs indicates no PCIe SR-IOV capability is exposed to Linux.

At this time, based on the published feature set and the capability checks above, the D7-PS1010 should be treated as not supporting SR-IOV / NVMe virtualization. We also do not have a public Solidigm D7 product reference confirming SR-IOV support, nor an announced firmware plan to enable it on the PS1010.

In general, SR-IOV is not typically a simple firmware toggle. It requires device/controller support, PCIe SR-IOV capability exposure, NVMe virtualization support, VF resource allocation, and platform/OS qualification. Because of that, it should not be assumed that it can be added later unless the product was designed and validated for it.

We hope this provides clarification to your question.

Kind regards
