TRIM firmware update killed my X25-M G2 160GB

Hey guys

I don't know what I can do now. I tried to update to the latest firmware yesterday, changed BIOS from AHCI to IDE mode, booted up the firmware updater and everything went through as planned. At least that's what I thought.

The updater reported a successful firmware update and that I should restart now. So I hit reset, switched back to AHCI and... well... couldn't boot into Windows any longer. Booting now takes ages and the SSD isn't recognized any more.

I tried rerunning the updater but it told me there wasn't any SSD. I then unplugged it from SATA and hit reset again. Booting was fast again and the updater started. I connected the SSD again and the firmware updater was able to find it and reported the latest firmware was already installed. I kept the SSD connected a few more minutes and it couldn't be found by the updater again.

In short:

Updater did *something* with my SSD, don't know what exactly. Fact is, my SSD can't be used any longer, booting takes ages, plugging it in after booting will make it visible for the updater a few minutes (serial number is still readable, no "BAD_CTX" like in the other thread I found).

What exactly happened? Could this be because of using "native IDE" mode instead of "legacy"? My board is a Gigabyte P35-DS4.

And what now? Is there a way to force a new firmware update? What if I call Intel service, they replace my old SSD and the new one still has the old firmware? What if this happens again with a new update attempt?

Hello, sorry for you. Try to find someone who has the 02G9 firmware (previous) on a bootable cd (it is not available on the intel site anymore) and try to make a "downgrade" of the firmware.... That's the only idea I have.... Or just call Intel...

I have a Gigabyte P35DS3-R, with a ICH9R, everything went find with the IDE mode. I used one of the six yellow sata connectors, which are managed by the ICH9R. The two others purple sata connectors are managed by another chip, a Jmicron I think...

Which one did you use ?

Hey,

I had a previous firmware cd to check my SSD in the first place. Unfortunately not any more, didn't think I would ever need that again. Do you think a downgrade is possible at all?

I used one of the yellow sata connectors, I don't use the purple ones at all.

Well, I found the old firmware on a website and tried to overwrite the new one. Didn't work, updater just said I use a preversion of a newer firmware and didn't allow to overwrite. That was my last chance I guess.

It's a chinese(?) website, couldn't read anything. But I searched for the ISO filename and found http://www.kbench.com/software/hit.jsp?no=35840 this.

But you can't use it anyway, the updater doesn't allow a downgrade once you updated to a newer version.

Why don't you try to apply the 02HA firmware on your ssd again, but from another motherboard ? Using the same bootable CD and the same SSD, if you still have the problem, it will come from you SSD. If not, it comes perhaps from your motherboard... Is your motherboard bios up to date ?

I tried to reapply the 02HA firmware but the updater just prevented that. It says the latest firmware is already installed and quits.

The SSD has to be the problem, I tried it on 2 other computers in the meantime, always with the same result: SSD slows down the boot process and can't be reached

I updated BIOS before installing the SSD, so yes

Just try to install your OS on a classical HDD. Install sdd toolbox from Intel. Install ssd on the second or third sata port and diagnose it with the Intel ssd toolbox ...

Impossible...

If I start the system with the SSD connected it just freezes in BIOS. So I tried to plug it in after Windows 7 was started. Result: Whole system froze and a few seconds later I had a wonderful BSOD. That firmware update really messed up the SSD.

Intel just removed the 02HA update. If only I had waited till weekend, my SSD would still work.

Intel has been contacted by users with issues with the 02HA firmware upgrade on Windows 7* systems and are investigating. We take all sightings and issues seriously and are working toward resolution. We have temporarily taken down the firmware update while we investigate.

Does anyone know details? Is Intel maybe updating the 02HA firmware?

Should I wait before sending my SSD back to Intel? Maybe a new update can fix the SSD?
